Natural-Modern Wreaths

Modern Church, modern Christmas decor~

That’s what we decided we needed to do, to blend our Christmas decor with our modern church!

The key was to finding the balance, and that’s when the idea of mixing in natural elements with the more modern elements came~

I knew I wanted to incorporate the Thrive green color into the decor this year. For one, it will go with the modern decor and I just love the color green and what it symbolizes!

I started by collecting the materials I would need to make three wreaths for the entry of the church, and a swag to hang over the threshold of a double door~

Materials we needed:

4 wreaths – 4 large bows – “thrive” green mesh – silver embellishments – pine cones – hot glue – craft wire

1. I always begin a wreath by fluffing out the greens, making it as full as possible.

2. Then I make a wire hook on the back of the wreath using craft wire.

3. I determined where I want the bow to go, and attached it with craft wire. (I usually place it 45 degrees to the left or right of the top of the wreath!)

4. I cut small 12″ squares of mesh and tied the four corners of them with wire, and attached the mesh “puff” around the wreath.

5. Then I decorated it with ornaments and/or embellishments, hot gluing them to the wreath!

6. Finally, I fill in any empty spaces with pine cones for a natural look.

There’s a joy in decorating for your own home, but an even greater joy when you do it for others. Have you ever noticed that?

Our motto at Thrive church is, “Love God, love people, and pass it on!”.

Tips~

1. Make your bows ahead of time and have them ready for when it’s time to make the wreaths.

2. When purchasing ornaments or embellishments, plan to buy a few of this and a few of that. You can always have leftovers to use elsewhere. You just don’t want to run short! Be prepared!

3. Purchase ornaments after Christmas. I start when I see them on sale for 50% off, but sometimes get as much as 90% off. (The materials for this wreath were bought recently, so no great deals, although I purchased the 3 green wreaths and swag at a yard sale and saved on them!)

4. Never buy pine cones. Well, unless you really like the smell of cinnamon, then it’s o.k.! 🙂

Hope you are encouraged to make your own wreaths now, if you haven’t before…

It’s fun and creative!

Always  in His love,
