Create Vignettes~ and capture memories…

One reason I love to decorate is it gives me the freedom to display all of the things that bring joy to my heart.

Our homes are our sanctuaries. They should be a place of comfort, beauty and peace! We should be able to come home and exhale, breathe in deeply and find delight in our surroundings…

One of the ways I do this is by creating vignettes~




Vignettes are simply an arrangement of items such as pictures, candles, plants etc. They can take up the entire top of a buffet or mantle, or a simple arrangement of loved items!


The key to making a vignette effective in capturing wonderful memories is to apply special meanings or memories to each of the items…




For example, with this vignette, the memories of receiving this African violet from a friend comes to mind. The silver crab reminds me of my son, as crabbing is one of his all-time favorite summer pleasures!




This vignette reminds me of my husband and me, our marriage and commitment to one another. I have a couple of dove vignettes, as the dove are birds that stay with each other forever!

I also included the drift wood in this particular arrangement because we’ve started a collection! We write the location on the back of the drift wood to remind us of each special adventure!




This vignette represents the numerous vacations we’ve taken to Myrtle Beach, SC as a family!  We have incredible memories there, and I know this vignette is one that will bring a smile to the whole family!


Pictures placed along with related objects work well to create special vignettes!




Some vignettes work surprisingly well in the kitchen. This one is my Ode to Entertaining! It reminds me of serving others and the joy that gives me…

The cutting board is special because it was given to me by my childhood best friend…the silver measuring spoons remind me of my daughter…Always remember to find a special place for the gifts that come from those you love!




This is a very simple themed vignette~

These are my children and this picture makes me so happy…I treasure the times we are all together as a family!

I love the frame. The butterfly represents my love for transformation and freedom, in the natural and in the spiritual…the reason for my blog!

I use the top butterfly to display cards with my blog address…




The mantle vignette is an example of a  larger vignette, but still kept uncomplicated because of similar colors and theme. The varied textures and heights of the objects keep it interesting!


Tips to remember:

1. Make your home a sanctuary by creating an atmosphere of comfort, peace and joy…

2. Surround yourself with loved items that evoke joyful memories and create positive thinking!

3. Items work well in odd numbered groups…

4. Vary the height of objects to keep it interesting…

5. Arrangements flow when there’s a common theme…

6. Keeping the colors similar will evoke a more peaceful feel…

7. Varied textures keep it interesting…ie, burlap, glass, rope, metallic, raffia, silk, wood…


As butterflies travel to a variety of flowers to get their nectar, we are encouraged to do the same as we search out positive thoughts & memories…

This strong encouragement might even be seen as a command…As you read this, remember that our direction for living comes as a beautiful picture as we read the Word and absorb what is so lovingly spoken to us…

*No more guilt for those of you who believe that decorating your home isn’t a call from God…As you spend time rearranging, redecorating or creating Vignettes, keep in mind that you are designing an atmosphere to “think on such things”…
